Toy Kingdom As Medicine

Yesterday I got a scare. The dynamo was out of commission. My normally hyper-active, livewire of a son had a 40.5 degree celcius fever. He was drowsy, irritable and clingy. If he wasn't crying and complaining of a headache he was sleeping. And that was really scary!.... An ordinary fever never got him down before. He had no appetite and was throwing up a few minutes after taking his medicines. I worried that he was getting dehydrated so i had him downing gatorade whenever i could.

When Jam was 4 years old, she had dengue fever. And now Jeremy was exhibiting the same symptoms that Jam had when she had the dengue. Which had me running to the doctor eventho yesterday was just the first day he had the fever (doctors would normally ask parents to bring their children to them when the fever had been running for three days already). It was already 3 o'clock in the afternoon so I had to bring him to a different pediatrician. Dr. Evelyn Dolor was the only pedia who still had clinic open that afternoon at DLSUMC. She said Jeremy had phlegm, which could be the culprit behind the fever. Said it was too early to test for dengue and so she prescribed cough syrup and antibiotics and paracetamol and sent us home. Telling us to come back after 3 days if he's still feverish.

Last night i talked him into taking the antibiotic by promising him a trip to SM's Toy Kingdom next weekend. He still threw up a few minutes after the antibiotic but fortunately didn't have a fever anymore this morning when he woke up. His dad gave him a blessing and this afternoon he was as good as new except for some soreness in the throat that he was complaining of. He managed to keep everything down and even had rice this evening shouting "Toy Kingdom!" (fist in the air) with every bite.

His primary teachers in church missed him. Well, not really all that much. He was one less bundle of exhuberant joy to disrupt the class :) ........
